Federal telemedicine flexibilities permitting DEA-registered clinicians to prescribe Schedule II–V controlled medications by audio-video telehealth, without a prior in-person exam, have been extended by the DEA and HHS through December 31, 2026 while permanent rules are finalized.
So yes: a stimulant can be prescribed after an online evaluation when it is clinically appropriate. What that does not mean is a prescription on demand. We complete a real diagnostic evaluation first, including history, validated rating scales, and screening for the conditions that mimic or accompany ADHD, and we check the state prescription monitoring program. Sometimes the right first step is labs, prior records, or a non-stimulant instead.
