Prescriptions when clinically appropriate

When a prescription is the right next step, it's sent electronically to your pharmacy. Not every visit results in a new prescription — sometimes labs, records, or a follow-up come first.

Is telehealth right for you?

Two columns. An honest answer.

Telehealth works really well for most adults — but not for everyone, every time. Here's how we think about it.

Great fit

Who telehealth is a great fit for.

  • Working professionals with back-to-back calendars
  • College students in OR or WA who want care that follows them home on break
  • Adults newly exploring ADHD who want a discreet first visit
  • Rural patients hours from the nearest psychiatrist
  • Anyone stable on medication who just wants unhurried refills
Consider in-person

When in-person is the better call.

  • Active safety concerns that need same-day in-person evaluation
  • Significant substance use requiring integrated medical oversight
  • Preference for a face-to-face rapport at the start

We’ll make the call together at intake — and you can switch between telehealth and in-person at any time.

Controlled medications

ADHD medication and telehealth.

This is the question we field more than any other, so here is the direct answer. Federal telemedicine flexibilities permitting DEA-registered clinicians to prescribe Schedule II–V controlled medications by audio-video telehealth — without a prior in-person exam — have been extended by the DEA and HHS through December 31, 2026 while permanent rules are finalized.

So yes: a stimulant can be prescribed after an online evaluation when it is clinically appropriate. What that does not mean is a prescription on demand. We complete a real diagnostic evaluation first — history, validated rating scales, and screening for the conditions that mimic or accompany ADHD — and we check the state prescription monitoring program. Sometimes the right first step is labs, prior records, or a non-stimulant instead.

Practical details

What actually happens on the day.

Where you can be
Anywhere you are physically located in Oregon or Washington and have privacy — home, a parked car, a closed office. What matters legally is the state you are in during the visit, not where you live.
What you need
A phone, tablet, or computer with a working camera and a reasonable connection. The visit runs in your browser; there is nothing to install and no account to create.
Visit length
Initial evaluations are unhurried. Follow-ups are scheduled with enough time to actually review how a medication is working rather than rubber-stamping a refill.
Prescriptions
Sent electronically to the pharmacy you choose, usually the same day. For controlled medications we confirm your pharmacy can fill the prescription before sending it.
Between visits
Secure portal messaging for questions, side effects, and refill requests. Urgent issues are triaged within one business day.
Insurance
Both Oregon and Washington require most commercial plans to cover telehealth comparably to in-person care, so a video visit typically costs the same specialist copay. We verify your specific benefits before the first appointment.
Telehealth FAQ

Common questions.

Is telehealth psychiatry as effective as in-person care?

For medication management of adult ADHD, depression, anxiety, and PTSD, the evidence shows outcomes comparable to in-person treatment. A psychiatric evaluation is fundamentally a structured conversation rather than a physical exam, which is why it translates to video better than most specialties.

What if I travel out of state?

You need to be physically located in a state where your clinician is licensed — for us, Oregon or Washington. If you are traveling elsewhere we will reschedule for when you are back. If you move permanently out of both states, we will help you transition care.

Can I switch between telehealth and in-person?

Yes, at any time and in either direction. Many patients start with telehealth because it schedules faster, then choose whichever format fits ongoing care. Our Salem, Newberg, and Vancouver offices are available for in-person visits.

Is the video visit private and HIPAA compliant?

Yes. Visits run on a HIPAA-compliant encrypted platform, and sessions are never recorded. The main privacy variable is your side — we recommend a space where you can speak freely, and headphones if others are home.

What if my internet cuts out mid-visit?

It happens and it is not a problem. We call you to finish the appointment by phone, and there is no charge for the interruption or for reconnecting.
